Project - Staircase and Exedra (curved seating structure)

Edgar Wood's design was used as the cover for the 1906 edition of the prominent journal Academy Architecture which illustrated the most important designs exhibited at the Royal Academy each year meaning the Jubilee Park Fountain was the most interesting design the Royal academy exhibited in 1906.  The commonly used term 'Staircase and Exedra' is a name derived from the statutory listing - the structure is listed Grade II. The proper name is the 'Park Fountain' or 'The Fountain in Jubilee Park'.

 

Our role: To develop a costed options appraisal for the repairs, prepare 3D laser scanned record drawings, specifications and as proposed drawings.  Following structural investigations it was decided that a concrete foundation was required under the structure, which meant carefully dismantling and removing each step, casting the foundation then reinstating each step to its original location, repairing damage, a conservation clean and repointing.
